The 67th Annual Grammy Awards show was a star-studded spectacle that delivered memorable performances and long-awaited awards. Prior to the event, the JerEcho surveyed the student body on their predicitons. Over 130 students responded to our survey, and here is how they matched with the night’s winners.
Song of the Year
Kendrick Lamar received the award for Song of the Year for “Not Like Us.” Jericho students responded very differently. For Song of the Year, “Die with a Smile” received 26.3% of the votes, “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” came in second and “Not Like Us” came in third.

Best R&B Song
The Grammy for Best R&B song matched with Jericho’s choice. “Saturn” by SZA received an overwhelming 89.8% of the respondents’ votes. Senior Zander P. is a huge fan. He said, “I think Sza is a really creative artist. Her melodies are very well put together.”

Best Rap Song
Jericho matched with the Grammy Awards again for the Best Rap Song. “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar took a lead with 45.8% of the votes. His song “Not Like Us” debuted at the number one spot on the Top 100 Billboard chart. This song quickly gained popularity throughout the country as it was a diss track to Drake.

Best Country Song
“TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” by Beyoncé was the Jericho favorite, but the Grammy Award went to “The Architect” by Kacey Musgraves. This song came in fourth for Jericho, after “TEXAM HOLD ‘EM,” “I Had Some Help,” and “A Bar Song”.

Best New Artist
Chappell Roan was awarded Best New Artist, however, Sabrina Carpenter took Jericho’s lead with 52.9% of the votes. Carpenter has become a rising star in Jericho, so many fans were disappointed.

Best Album of the Year
For many Jericho students, Beyoncé’s award for Best Album of the Year was quite a surprise. They voted for “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” By Billie Eilish as number one and “Short n’ Sweet” by Sabrina Carpenter in 2nd place.

Best Music Video
For Best Music Video, Jericho matched with the Grammy Award winner Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” The video, which ties into the song’s themes and diss track, was appreciated by Jericho students.

JHS students clearly love music as their participation in our poll shows. Senior Zander P. said, “I do think students at Jericho have a strong passion for music. I myself have a big passion for music.” However, with only 3 of 7 matches with the Grammy Award choices, our survey respondents were clearly surprised with the results.
