Mr. Vincent Valentini is a passionate and dedicated English teacher and a relatively new face in the Jericho School District. He joined the high school faculty as a leave replacement for Ms. Gargioulo and is currently serving as a leave replacement in Jericho Middle School.
Mr. Valentini’s academic journey began at CUNY Queens College, where he earned his undergraduate degree. He pursued graduate studies at NYU and earned additional graduate certificates from SUNY Plattsburgh and Molloy College. He is currently enrolled in a doctoral program in Educational Leadership at Teachers College, Columbia University. He said, “My education has helped me understand how to create an inclusive classroom.”
Mr. Valentini’s passion for teaching was ignited in high school by an influential 10th grade English teacher who made him fall in love with reading. He said, “She was the one who suggested I should become a teacher. At the time, I thought, ‘Yeah, I think I do want to teach!’”
Mr. Valentini values helping his students develop their minds and hearts. He said, “It’s not just about getting through the material; it’s about creating a space where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring new ideas, and growing both academically and personally.”
Mr. Valentini’s teaching philosophy focuses on creating a positive, engaging, and inclusive environment for all students. “What I love most about Jericho is that the students are genuinely excited to learn,” he said.
Curriculum Associate for English Language Arts Dr. Salzman highlights Mr. Valentini’s use of creative strategies to engage all of his students. He said, “In one of his lessons on ‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’ he had students use artwork to demonstrate their understanding of the text. It was a brilliant way to make complex material more accessible, especially for students who struggle with reading.”
Though pursuing his doctoral degree keeps him busy, Mr. Valentini is also passionate about fitness. He enjoys running, hiking and working out—activities that help him clear his mind and recharge. “Fitness is my way of staying focused and maintaining balance in my life,” he said.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Mr. Valentini has become involved in extracurricular activities at Jericho. As a track and field coach for both the winter and spring seasons, he connects with students outside the classroom. He said, “Coaching has been a great way to get to know my students better. It’s fun to watch them grow both academically and athletically.”
