Jericho welcomes a new English teacher and middle school girl’s soccer coach this year, Ms. Dana Buquicchio.
Ms. Buquicchio played soccer at Drew University where she received her undergraduate degree in English Literature with a minor in Creative Writing. She went to Stony Brook to acquire her master’s degree in English Education.
Ms. Buquicchio teaches her 9th grade English class how to write a well-structured essay. Students appreciate Ms. Buquicchio’s use of interactive and helpful teaching methods. Freshman Devyn S. said, “I like how she uses slideshows to teach.”
Her experience at Jericho so far has been enjoyable. She said, “Building those connections with students has been so fun.”
Ms. Buquicchio’s favorite part of Jericho is the kindness of its community members. She said, “You can tell they really like each other and care about each other.”
Ms. Buquicchio is well-liked by her students. Freshman Gracie F. thinks Ms. Buquicchio explains things well and she appreciates her warm personality. Gracie said, “She is a very nice and caring person.”
Curriculum Associate of English Language Arts Dr. Dan Salzman respects Ms. Buquicchio’s determination to grow as an educator. Dr. Salzman said, “She is interested in different methodologies to reach and engage kids with literature, reading and writing.”
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Buquicchio enjoys going on runs, reading and crocheting. Additionally, she is a huge One Direction fan and her favorite song is “Right Now.”
