The girls varsity tennis team showcased remarkable sportsmanship and teamwork this past season and concluded with a record of 6 wins and 8 losses.
Senior co-captains Victoria Silva, Lily Horowitz and Madeline Shek used their experience to guide the team, ending the season with a win on senior night against the Plainview Hawks with a score of 6-1.
First singles player and junior Aryana Adur believes that there’s definitely room for improvement when it comes to the team’s over-net game. She said, “This would mean doing more volley and net drills next year during practice, and learning how to become accustomed to moving forward in the court after putting pressure on the opponent’s weaker shot.”
Doubles partners Lily Horowitz and Olivia Becker feel that communication is beneficial to their performance in games. Lily said, “Usually while warming up and hitting with our opponents, we talk and try to figure out their weak shots so that we can hit to their weaknesses. We also try to talk between points and games in the beginning about how the other team plays, and how to win the most points.”
Senior Lily Horrowitz and freshman Olivia Becker sense that teamwork on and off the court is key for new doubles partners. Lily added, “I would suggest hitting with other doubles teams to figure out the best way that you and your partner play together as a team. This includes figuring out who is strong at the net and determining which person plays on the forehand or backhand side.”
The team showed major improvement throughout the season, and with this kind of reflection and dedication they are destined for future success.
