Farewell to Ms. Palumbo

By KATHERINE LEE

We will greatly miss Ms. Nadine Palumbo, who is retiring from the Jericho School District after 3 decades of teaching English to students. During her successful career, Ms. Palumbo taught AP Language and Composition, Ways of Seeing, architecture, and art history. Outside of the classroom, Ms. Palumbo founded Camp Color, a workshop focused on fostering social-emotional learning through the humanities.

Ms. Palumbo graduated from Northport High School, received her B.A. in Art History from Stony Brook University, and her M.A. in English Literature from Hofstra University.

Ms. Palumbo commented that she experienced a “lifetime of memories” from her time here at Jericho. Ms. Palumbo was recently married this past spring to Jericho High School World Language teacher Dr. Vittorino, so she noted that her retirement will not be a complete goodbye to her connection to Jericho. She is looking forward to interacting with her former students, several of whom are now personal friends and even attended her wedding. She believes that students are just “people at a different stage in their lives.”

Ms. Palumbo assists Junior Ashlyn T. on an essay.

Junior ML is a current student in Ms. Palumbo’s AP Composition class and described her as “dedicated, resilient, organized, and attentive.”

Fellow AP Composition teacher Ms. Gulitti will miss so much about Ms. Palumbo. She said, “I will miss being able to visit Ms. Palumbo in room 257 on my way to class every day. I will miss our chats on hall duty and her input during a faculty or department meeting. I will miss her sassy sense of humor and her snazzy, fashionable outfits. Congratulations to Ms. Palumbo on a fantastic career, and may she enjoy the rest and opportunities for new adventures in her retirement.”

Ms. Palumbo is excited to be living back in her hometown of Northport where she envisions she will read, reflect, kayak, and visit museums.

We wish Ms. Palumbo the best in her retirement!
