Science teacher Ms. Karen Singer is retiring after 22 years in Jericho High School and 35 years in her teaching career.
Ms. Singer has many cherished memories of her time at JHS, specifically making great relationships with students and colleagues. She said, “My colleagues are like my family, making those relationships were really special.”
Ms. Singer’s colleagues feel just as strongly about their relationships with her. Science teacher Ms. Cancemi said, “What I will remember most about Ms. Singer is her strength. Not only is she an excellent teacher and amazing mother, but she is also one of the strongest people I have ever known.”
Ms. Singer always supports her colleagues. Living Environment teacher Ms. Kipnis said, “Ms. Singer supported me in every way from working side by side every day, understanding me, and never making fun of me!”
Ms. Singer left a positive impression on many students. Sophomore Ashley X. appreciates Ms. Singer’s teaching style. “She always made the material interesting and accessible, and has always been really patient with me, which made a huge difference in my learning experience,” she said.
Sophomore Belinda B. agrees with Ashley. “I’m very lucky to have had Ms. Singer as my teacher for my first year at Jericho. She really helped me a lot, and has always been patient with me.”
After her retirement, Ms. Singer plans to move to Florida and volunteer to save turtles. For her parting words, Ms. Singer said, “Thanks for an incredible teaching experience. Thanks for giving me extended family, and thanks for all the support Jericho gave me during a difficult time in my life.”
Ms. Singer’s final piece of advice to the Jericho staff is, “Keep close to your colleagues.”
