The varsity boys swim team performed strongly in the pool winning 6 meets and losing only twice this season.
The team consisted of 36 athletes who built close bonds with one another. Sophomore Romir Sachdev expressed appreciation for his experience. He said, “I’m so grateful to be part of the team that always aims for the best and doesn’t give up.”
This year’s team has several top notch athletes, such as sophomore Tristan Yang who is the defending county and state champion in diving. Also, junior Matthew Zhao recently broke the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke, and qualified for this year’s state meet in the 200 individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke. Sophomore Tommy Yuan qualified for states in the 100-yard butterfly. Additionally, Engels Wang and Justin Chen are joining these 3 athletes at the state meet as a part of a relay.
Coach Stern said, “The team this year is a good group of athletes who come in every day and just try and do a great job. That has been our mantra all season.”
He continued by expressing how much youth the team has. He added, “We are a younger squad than I have had in the years past. The future is bright for the Jayhawks.”
He continued by mentioning the strength of the team. He said, “Our strength has been our depth. We have two divers, one who is the defending county and state champion. That sets us up ahead in points for almost every meet. Our depth makes it hard for other teams to match up against us.”
