The Jericho varsity boys volleyball team had an outstanding season. The boys poured their hearts into every game and worked well together. Their teamwork was reflected in their winning season going 8-5 and making it to playoffs.
Senior and co-captain Mark Sheen was very pleased with the comeraderie of this year’s squad. He said, “I’m thrilled with the team this year. Many of us were on varsity together last year, so it’s a tight-knit group and we’re close as a team. This helps us be comfortable with each other on the court, and grow with each other.”
Senior and co-caption Darren Cen was impressed by this team’s positivity. He said, “This year’s volleyball team is more like a family than a team. On the court, whether in practice or a game, it’s important to treasure what sliver of fun there is amidst the pressure. And because we are so close, it omits whatever negative tension there is. Despite having our ups and downs, it’s the ups with the team that make playing the sport worthwhile.”
Junior and caption Chase Ngai celebrates a block for the team.
After a a successful regular season, the volleyball team made it all the way to the Nassau County Championship. Sadly, Calhoun won despite Jericho scoring numerous match points.
