Jericho Bowling Strikes Out the Competition

By RAGHAV PATEL and NOAH INOFF

Both boys and girls Jericho varsity bowling teams were very successful this season, with the girls placing first in their conference and the boys finishing second in theirs.

With combined squads composed of 4 seniors, 5 juniors, 8 sophomores and 2 freshmen, fans noticed hard work displayed during matches.

Girls coach Ms. Sarah Seeger felt confident about this season going into it. She said, “I knew I had a great team with wonderful girls. They came into the season as conference champions and have bowled really well.”

Boys coach Mr. Dave Herbert thoroughly enjoyed working with this year’s team. “The boy’s bowling team this year could be one of the best we have had in years. The athletes support one another and thrive on competition. They are a pleasure to coach and work with,” he said.

According to Mr. Herbert, senior Daniel Kwak is the conference’s individual leader and highest single game scorer. Despite losing this valuable senior next year, Coach Herbert is optimistic about next season. He said, “The team is young and will have many returning players next season. Overall, the team is balanced, coachable, and has continued to become more competitive each and every game. You couldn’t ask for anything more.”

Daniel described this year’s team as stellar. He said, “Thankfully, we had a really great team this year. We improved throughout the season and were able to end the season with a great result. I think the season went very well; we won the majority of our matches and ended with a very successful results compared to previous years.”

Junior Mark Sheen believes in the potential of the team going forward. “I think the team this year was really good because we had a lot of promising players who are still young, so it gives a lot of potential for the team, and it allowed for the older players to help teach them. I also think that everyone was able to mesh together and just have fun together, which matters a lot,” he said.

Junior Christy Zhang was pleased with how encouraging this year’s team was throughout the season. “I would say that my bowling team was really positive and supportive. We would always cheer each other up before and after a game or even just a practice. Even though there were some losses and wins throughout the season, the overall performance of the season was great. We were all motivated by all the victories and defeats and tried our best. I was glad that I got a chance to join the team this year.”
