Farewell to Ms. Ornstein

By ANDREW LEE

We will greatly miss Ms. Ornstein, who retires from the Jericho School District after 3 decades of teaching students. During her career, Ms. Ornstein has taught a wide range of classes including history, economics, psychology, and child development.

Ms. Ornstein was born in Brooklyn, raised in North Wantagh and graduated from the Levittown school district where she was an avid reader and sports fan. After engaging in non-profit work, Ms. Ornstein transitioned to her 3rd grade dream job: teaching.

Ms. Ornstein notes that one of her most valuable memories at JHS was watching her former students mature and grow. Some of her former students are now her colleagues at local districts and one student is employed at the White House.

Ms. Ornstein expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to teach at Jericho for so long with such wonderful students and colleagues and access to vast resources. She advises her fellow teachers “not to sweat the small stuff” since a teaching career “goes by in a heartbeat.”

For her retirement Ms. Ornstein has plans to travel, increase her political involvement, reinvigorate her love of reading, and enjoy the ability to be spontaneous.

Ms. Ornstein is an esteemed teacher with a lively personality, and we wish her the best in retirement.
