Since her freshman year, Alexia Kadota-Browner has been intrigued by student government. She served as president of the class of 2021 as a freshman, sophomore, and junior. Now as a senior, Alexia serves as co-president of the General Student Council, putting her passion for making positive change within the community into action.
As co-president, Alexia devotes a majority of her time to improving both the school and the local community. Alexia helped facilitate Jericho High School’s first annual Senior Chalkfest, a COVID-19-safe event for seniors to decorate parking spots with chalk and win prizes. Recently, Alexia coordinated Jericho High School’s second annual Senior Day during which seniors only were invited to come to school to participate in a variety of activities with their classmates.
When Alexia isn’t participating in student government, she’s interning for our local county government. Alexia was heavily involved in the campaign for the current 18th District Nassau County Legislator, Joshua Lafazan. Currently, she runs the Joshua Lafazan Government Internship program. She said, “I think that the experience is extremely enriching because it’s not common that young people can be involved so directly in politics.”
Alexia’s friends are constantly in awe of all of her achievements. Senior Noa K. said, “Alexia is the most motivated person I know. It’s amazing to see one of my closest friends accomplish so much in and out of school.”
Alexia also loves to stay active. She has played on the girls varsity lacrosse team since her sophomore year, and is a member of the dance department.
Outside of school, she continues to be active by maintaining her fitness Instagram account and her 2 YouTube channels. She posts workout tips, healthy food options and inspirational messages for those also looking to stay fit and live a healthy lifestyle. Her YouTube videos are filled with a variety of unique content, catering to audiences in English and Japanese.
Alexia is attending Northwestern University and was accepted into their Medill School of Journalism where she will continue to pursue her interests in journalism and politics through a double major in broadcast journalism and political science.
Alexia acknowledges that graduating from Jericho will be bittersweet. She said, “As I move onto the next chapter of my life, I’m going to miss my time in Jericho, but I know everything I did here has prepared me for future success.”
