Remember the time when we used to go to the movie theaters, watch a good movie and eat some popcorn? All of this had to end when COVID-19 emerged in North America. In fact, the last movie I saw in the theater was “The Call of the Wild” with Harrison Ford, and that was a month before lockdown. I sure wish I had seen a better movie at that time.
To ease the boredom of the lockdown, many movie buffs were forced to watch entertaining content through streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+. Junior Siddartha C. said “I used to go to the movies fairly often but had to stop due to COVID-19.”
Some moviegoers hope to go back to the movie theaters but want to wait until it is safe to go back to the theater. For instance, video production and IED teacher Mr. Silva said, “I’ll go back to a movie theater when I am comfortable to go to work, the grocery store and a crowded concert without a mask on.”
Many within the Jericho community are still skeptical whether going to a movie theater is a good idea. Freshman Michael M. said, “I won’t go back to the movie theater because it is a lot easier to just watch a movie at home than at the cinema.”
Even though many movie theaters are now open, a lot of cinema lovers feel more comfortable staying at home so there’s no risk of getting the virus.
I personally am more acclimated to watching movies through a variety of streaming services because it is currently the only option I have at the moment. I do miss the feeling of watching movies on the big screen with my family. I hope that we are all able to go watch movies at the theater so we can relive those nostalgic experiences once again.
Junior Hanson L. said it best: “I hope I could still go to watch movies in theaters with popcorn on the right and Pepsi on the left.”
