Music on PAUSE

By AARON MARASIA, LARRY DING, JASON CHOI and ANDREW KWON

For all of those who are bored and don’t have enough to do while sheltering in place, a great activity to pass the time is learning to play an instrument. Maybe there’s one that you’ve always wanted to play, or maybe there’s that piano that you haven’t touched for quite a while. If you’re feeling down because you’re stuck at home, what better way to lighten up the mood than playing and singing along to your favorite songs? Besides, there are many other benefits of learning and playing music, as explained in this video.

There are so many video tutorials online to help you learn an instrument you’ve always wanted to know how to play.

However, if playing instruments isn’t your thing, there is still a whole world of music to enjoy accessible at your fingertips. This is a perfect time to discover new music and reconnect with old songs that you have forgotten about but always loved. If you need any recommendations, The Weeknd and PartyNextDoor recently released new albums. These two RnB/hip-hop stars’ music is perfect to listen to when taking a walk, doing homework or just relaxing. Other members of the Jericho High School community have been keeping up on their music as well. Science teachers Ms. Rinaudo and Ms. Risi love The Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtrack. Also, be on the lookout for your favorite artists performing live-stream concerts from their homes on their Instagram pages or on YouTube!

Music has a healing quality that can help get anyone through these trying times. Getting lost in the rhythm and beat of a song is a great distraction from what’s going on in the world around us. There’s a song for every mood and emotion. If you’re feeling anxious, agitated or unmotivated, there’s a song for that. If you just need something playing in the background while doing some work, there’s a song for that, too. A few great songs that will ease your mind during this quarantine are Remember Me by UMI, On Chill by Wale, Janet by Berhana, Broken Clocks by SZA and Heebiejeebies by Amine.

So while on PAUSE, keep the music playing.
