Dear All Weekend Worker:
I understand how frustrating it can be when all of your friends are allowed to go out but your parents want you to stay home and do schoolwork. It may be helpful to put yourself in your parents’ shoes. It’s likely your parents constantly worry about you and just want to make sure you’re safe at all times. They think having you stay at home is the best option. However, I also understand that staying home can damage your social life. You should consider explaining to your parents that socializing with others at your age can improve your interpersonal skills and further your confidence. Additionally, try to approach your parents at an appropriate time. You should not try and have this conversation during a heated argument. Instead, wait for a time when you and your parents are relaxed and can talk about this situation calmly. If your parents say no, respond in a respectful manner and try to understand where they are coming from. Hopefully, they will appreciate your kindness and reevaluate the situation in the near future. When this time comes, make sure you earn your parents’ trust. When you go out, you should make sure you come home at a reasonable hour and that all your homework is done before you leave. This will show your parents that you are capable of maintaining both your grades and a social life. I hope this advice will help you get out and live it up!
Best regards,
JuJu
