Jericho School District on Top

By LAUREN STEINBERGER

For the first time ever, Jericho School District was ranked #1 among school districts in the nation for the year 2019 by the Niche company.

Nassau County Legislator Arnold Drucker recognized this honor at a recent Nassau County Legislature meeting. “Today I have the privilege of recognizing the academic success, not of a particular student or group of students, but an entire school district,” he said. Drucker acknowledged Jericho Schools Superintendent Mr. Henry Grishman’s humble attitude upon receiving this award. “He is always quick to point out that the school district’s success could not occur without the remarkable dedication and effort by his fellow administrators, the outstanding faculty, and the partnership and commitment that has been established with the trustees of the board of education, the parents, and the children of Jericho,” Drucker said.

The Niche Organization runs an annual ranking and review site based on data it receives from the U.S. Department of Education. According to the Niche website, there are many factors Niche considers when ranking a district, such as academics, culture, diversity, parent and student experiences, teacher satisfaction, safety, resource availability, and the variety of extracurricular activities and offerings.

Nassau County Legislators invited members of the Jericho School District to a recognition ceremony and congratulated the District on its accomplishment.

Jericho High School Principal Ms. Rosenberg is honored by this award. She mentioned that the ranking is not just based on statistics and test results. “It’s also based on things such as students and parents reporting how safe they feel in the building, and the opportunities that are offered to students in the community here, so it’s nice to know that it’s based on a whole gamut of things,” she said.
