Jericho High School has recently welcomed some very enthusiastic new hires. They are Ms. Behr, Mr. Corrao, Ms. Jensen, Ms. Lanfranchi, Ms. Lopez, Mr. Giallorenzo, and Mr. Sundahl.
Ms. Kathryn Behr is Jericho’s new Fine and Performing Arts Curriculum Associate. She was a Director of Music and Art for the East Meadow School District before coming here. Ms. Behr was drawn to Jericho because of “how well rounded the students are once they leave the school.” She loves developing new relationships with young people, and if she wasn’t in education, she would likely be working in the medical field.
Mr. Christopher Corrao is a new social studies teacher who previously taught AP World at Copiague High School. Mr. Corrao said, “I love the supportive administration and the level of collaboration between teachers at Jericho.” He enjoys teaching about Greece and Rome while showing his students pictures of his experiences there. He is living his dream job of being a social studies teacher
and likes to play sports in his free time. Mr. Corrao is able to play five instruments: the guitar, the ukulele, the drums, the piano, and the marimba.
World language teacher Ms. Emily Jensen taught at Kings Park High School before coming to Jericho. She likes to teach here because of the hardworking students who help her to grow as a person. She loves teaching world languages and helping her students to become more open minded, learning different ways of life other than their own. She believes that she can act as a role model to her students because she is a non-native speaker of Spanish who can inspire others to become fluent in the language. During her free time she said, “ I like to play with my puppy Luna.”
Ms. Gina Lanfranchi is another new world language teacher. Before Jericho, she taught in Massapequa. Ms. Lanfranchi feels that working at Jericho will help her to pass her knowledge on to her students and said, “ I am blessed to be here.” She likes the fact that Jericho is a community of learners, and it inspires her to be a great teacher. She loves teaching French because of how close it is to the American culture. If she weren’t a teacher she’d like to be a social scientist. When she’s not teaching she is mentoring teenage girls, and has an unusual talent of adopting new accents.
Jessica Lopez is a world language teacher who came from Bay Shore High School. She wanted to teach at Jericho because “it’s the best school on Long Island.” She believes that teaching provides the privilege of meeting many different people and personalities which makes it exciting and pushes her to work harder. She likes teaching Spanish because she grew up in the Puerto Rican culture. She loves to give her students new experiences when she is teaching them Spanish. For fun she loves to listen to music and spend time with her family. Ms. Lopez also has a talent for singing, and if she wasn’t a teacher she might be a chef.
Dr. Michael Giallorenzo is a new science research teacher here. He last taught astronomy at LaGuardia Community College. When asked if why he wanted to work at Jericho he said, “Who wouldn’t want to teach at Jericho?” He loves the diverse representation of students who take science research. For fun he enjoys playing guitar, camping and visiting family.
Mr. Gregory Sundahl is Jericho’s Sports Marketing and College Business Law teacher. Before working at Jericho he worked at Northport High School. Mr. Sundahl believes it is important to teach business because the business world is all around us. One of the main reasons he decided to teach at Jericho was because of its great reputation in academics. When asked what he likes about Jericho Mr. Sundahl said, “Jericho has wonderful students inclined to higher standards that are interested in learning.” If Mr. Sundahl wasn’t a teacher, he would like to be working in the corporate world. When it comes to having fun, Mr. Sundahl likes to go to the beach or play volleyball. His unusual talents consist of multitasking and keeping people happy.
