Many teachers in the Jericho School District have recently had their kids and shared their lives as parents outside of the school building with the JerEcho. Some relayed their experiences from pre-pregnancy and others the daily activities that they carry out with their children.
Dance and Physical Education teacher Mrs. Corbett and her son, Caeden Christopher. “My husband and I share responsibilities. We take turns watching him, so we balance each other’s daily activities. We enjoy playing together and visiting family… He likes bouncing a lot on his bouncer. We do a lot of tummy time. We go out for walks.”
Symphonic Band Conductor Mrs. Bellon and her daughter, Olivia Evangeline. “It’s honestly the best feeling in the world having someone look at you and know that they’re relying on you every day. They trust you. They love you. And there’s no conditions whatsoever that they hold against you.”
Spanish teacher Ms. Tomkiel and her son, Luca Rafael. “I remember when I was pregnant with Luca. I was so excited to meet him and a bit anxious and nervous about what being a parent would entail. I spent months reading different books and hearing advice from others and I felt as prepared as I could be. Now that he’s finally here, I can’t imagine my life without my little man.”
English teacher Mrs. McGee and her son, Noah Patrick. “William–my older son– is a dream. He loves Noah, or ‘Noah cakes’ rather, as we lovingly call him. We were a little bit worried at first. But now William is so sweet with him. They’re always together and enjoy playing with Matchbox cars…It’s a lot less scary with Noah. My husband and I are now much more relaxed looking over Noah now that we had experience over William.”
Social Studies teacher Mrs. Rigo about her son, Luca Alexander. “I love to see Luca learn new things. I have to be really efficient when I’m on the job, at work, at school, and I have to hire a lot of babysitters… He likes his formula. He just tried bananas and he’s not quite sure what to make of them yet.”
Science teacher Mr. Smith and his daughter, Esmé Vienna. “We go out for walks and meet basic needs such as feeding and bathing. We also do developmental things like tummy time.”
English teacher Mrs. Han and her son, Michael Joonhee. “My life feels much richer…We read a lot of books. I guess that’s not a surprise since I’m an English teacher….They love playing together. They sing together. They also fight a lot, but they always make up very quickly.”
English teacher Mrs. Vardhan and her daughter, Jesamine Leela. “Well, first off I noticed that as she got older, I got less sleep. She continues to grow and I do notice many differences between her personality to now. She’s definitely more active and energetic. I always make sure to remain occupied with my work, but to also make time for her at home.”
