Attention senior girls and minion-lovers alike: Universal Pictures has announced that Untitled Minions Project, a full-length film dedicated solely to the Despicable Me franchise’s beloved yellow henchmen, will be released on July 10, 2015.
This 3-D animated film focuses on the minions’ history as villains’ assistants. After they accidentally destroyed their former masters, some of whom were Dracula and dinosaurs, the minions move to Antarctica to start fresh. In the 1960s, the minions become depressed due to their inability to serve, and they go to a villain convention to find a new master. There, they meet Scarlet Overkill (voiced by Sandra Bullock), a power-hungry female villain, and her husband and weapon-inventor, Herb Overkill (voiced by Jon Hamm.)

The film was originally slated for release on December 19, 2014, but Universal pushed its release date to summer due to the franchise’s previous success with summer releases.
In other fantastic news, Universal Pictures has also announced that Despicable Me 3 will be released on June 30, 2017 – start your countdowns now, everyone!
